The Reed sensor is used in order to avoid mechanically moving parts in the handset cradle.Working in vakuum, the Reed sensor is activated without contact via a magnet. This makes it extremly reliable and increases the life span enormously. The Reed sensor contributes considerably to the vandal-resistance of the handset cradle.
